REVIEW: Vengeance in Death

Title: Vengeance in Death
Author: J.D. Robb
Finished: September 28, 2011
Pages: 372
Published: 1997
Format: paperback

This was one of my ultimate favorite books of the In Death Series so far.

Eve Dallas has always had issues with her husband’s illegal past, but loves him anyway. When her latest case brings Roarke’s sketchy past into the light and leaves him and his helpful servant as the prime suspects, Eve has no choice but to enlist their help to prove their innocence.

I love this mystery but we learn so much more about the past than ever before, which in turn shows a different side to Eve & Roarke’s relationship.

I’m really enjoying all these books and wish I could read them faster because there are so many more mysteries for them to solve.

*challenges: fall into reading, 11 in 11 reading challenge, 100+ reading challenge, a-z challenge, in death challenge, monthly mixup

Dewey’s Read-a-Thon Wrap Up

So, this is it and while I had tons of fun and wished that I could have stayed away, I caved around hour 17 and tried to take a nap but just couldn’t bring myself to go back to reading and instead went to bed. Oh well, I still got some reading done which was the goal.
  • Which hour was most daunting for you? 17 when I decided it was time to take a nap
  • Could you list a few high-interest books that you think could keep a Reader engaged for next year? I didn’t read any this year but graphic novels have always been great for me to read, and children/young adult books
  • Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year? I thought it was great
  • What do you think worked really well in this year’s Read-a-thon? I loved the activity, there was constant conversation which was great.
  • How many books did you read? I finished one book, read one other one, and read half of a third
  • What were the names of the books you read? The Final Warning by James Patterson, The Choice by Nicholas Sparks, and The Wedding by Nicholas Sparks
  • Which book did you enjoy most? The Choice by Nicholas Sparks
  • Which did you enjoy least? The Final Warning by James Patterson
  • If you were a Cheerleader, do you have any advice for next year’s Cheerleaders? I cheered a little but was not an official one
  • How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again? What role would you be likely to take next time? I’ll be there for sure! I need to get it added to my calendar.
And for the final totals, here are my end stats:
Number of Pages Read since last update: 125
Number of Books read since last update: 1
Number of Minutes Read since last update: 4 hours
Total Number of Pages Read: 619
Total Number of Books Finished: 2
Total Number of Minutes Read: 12 hours 15 minutes
I’m already looking for the next read-a-thon and hoping for better results.

Read-a-Thon Mid Event Survey

We’re past the halfway point and I’m feeling okay. Maybe a little bored but hopefully the books get better and Criminal Minds becomes more interesting to make the hours fly. I’m already starting to get tired which isn’t good. I don’t want to cave with so many hours of good reading left.

Mid-Event Survey:
1. What are you reading right now? The Wedding by Nicholas Sparks
2. How many books have you read so far? I’ve finished 2 and I’m working on a 3rd.
3. What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon? I think I’ll move onto The Sinner by Tess Gerritsen or Midnight in Death by J.D. Robb since it’s more a short story than full novel.
4. Did you have to make any special arrangements to free up your whole day? Nope. I didn’t have anything planned so I was able to stay home all day.
5. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those? Yep. The family came over to watch the football game so I tried to read during it but wasn’t very successful.
6. What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far? That I chose longer novels than my quick and easy reads like I normally do.
7. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year? I’m enjoying myself this year, so no suggestions.
8. What would you do differently, as a Reader or a Cheerleader, if you were to do this again next year? I’d probably choose some quicker reads, but I’m enjoying what I’m reading so I can’t complain too much.
9. Are you getting tired yet? Yep. Not a good sign.
10. Do you have any tips for other Readers or Cheerleaders, something you think is working well for you that others may not have discovered? Nothing at the moment. I need to find my energy charge!

Hour 12 Update – Read-a-Thon

Finally time for a real update. I’m back to regular reading time and kicked the family out. Glad my team won their game today. My Kindle app was having issues so I had to forego starting The Girl Who Played With Fire and moved onto The Wedding by Nicholas Sparks. I’ve been hearing great things about it. I’ll be thinking about another snack soon. It’s 6pm here and I’m using Criminal Minds as my background noise.

Number of Pages Read since last update: 129
Number of Books read since last update: 2
  • The Choice by Nicholas Sparks (finished)
  • The Wedding by Nicholas Sparks
Number of Minutes Read since last update: 4 hours and some change
Total Number of Pages Read: 494
Total Number of Books Finished: 2
  • The Final Warning by James Patterson
  • The Choice by Nicholas Sparks
Total Number of Minutes Read: 8 hours 15 minutes

Hour 10 Update – Read-a-Thon

It’s been awhile since I’ve had an update. The fam is over watching BSU beat Air Force and they are very distracting. I hope to start getting some good reading in here soon since the game is almost over.

I just finished The Choice by Nicholas Sparks. I’m about to start The Girl Who Played With Fire by Steig Larsson.

I’ll do a real update with numbers once I get my laptop back from Skype.
