REVIEW: Interview With the Vampire

Title: Interview With the Vampire
Author: Anne Rice
Finished: December 31, 2011
Pages: 342
Published: 1976
Format: paperback

I started this one as audiobook and then finished the second half with the actual book.

If anyone has seen the movie, the book is pretty comparable, but I had a hard time enjoying the book as much as the movie. The back and forth between the story and the interview made it hard to decipher outside of the audiobook.

The overall plot is a reporter is invited to interview a vampire and hear his sordid story of being turned, finding love, feeling betrayed, and searching for a new life where he would be happier.

REVIEW: Life of Pi

Title: Life of Pi
Author: Yann Martel
Finished: December 6, 2011
Pages: 326
Published: 2001
Format: paperback & audiobook

I started this one off on audiobook then when I got closer to the end I picked up my own paperback and finished it off a lot faster.

When a young boy raised working at a family zoo and his family are offered the opportunity of a lifetime traveling across the ocean with some rare animals to join another zoo, the temptation is hard to resist.

But once on the journey Pi, the young boy, finds himself the lone survivor of a sinking ship. The story of Pi and his journey is one that is hard to believe and even at the end one questions which is reality and which is fiction.

A great story! Can’t wait to see how it transforms on film.

REVIEW: 2001 A Space Odyssey

Title: 2001 A Space Odyssey
Author: Arthur C. Clarke
Finished: November 16, 2011
Pages: 320
Published: 1968
Format: audiobook

Another audiobook since sci-fi isn’t always my most favorite genre to read.

The book was created in conjunction with the movie version by Kubrick and according to Wikipedia is based on a series of short stories.

It’s been long enough since I listened and it wasn’t a favorite, that without quoting directly from a website, I think the title is pretty self-explanatory. The tale of a spaceman who begins to run into a series of issues with his ship and begins to believe that the onboard robot is sabotaging the mission on purpose.

It was definitely interesting when I got to the heart of the story, but still I felt there were slower parts.

REVIEW: Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy

Title: The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy
Author: Douglas Adams
Finished: November 5, 2011
Pages: 216
Published: 1979
Format: audiobook

I choose this one for audiobook because I wasn’t really sure if I would enjoy the genre as much as others but overall it was quite enjoyable to listen to versus actually reading.

The futuristic story tells us of Arthur as his world is demolished and he is taken by an alien as the lone Earth survivor. He makes his journey and learns to live among a new colony, unsure of what his future holds.

Definitely a very interesting story and great to listen to.
