REVIEW: 3 Nicholas Sparks Books

Title: The Choice

Finished: October 22, 2011
Pages: 420

Format: First Edition

I haven’t read many Nicholas Sparks books, but this was one of my favorite love stories – the unexpected and unpredictable type of love.

When two neighbors find themselves drawn to each other after a serious of run-ins, they both fight their attraction due to other commitments. But love doesn’t disappear and Gabby & Travis are faced with tough decisions.

Title: The Wedding
Author: Nicholas Sparks
Finished: October 8 2011
Pages: 289
Published: 2003
Format: paperback

The sequel to The Notebook, this Sparks love story celebrates the 30th wedding anniversary. With a wedding to plan, Jane & Wilson find themselves at an impasse in their own relationship, forcing Wilson to find a way to rekindle the love he once had with his wife and prove that he is still the man she married

I love this one as well! The combination of new marriage and old creates a beautiful love story of past, present & future. Plus it’s a great conclusion to the Notebook love story.

Finished: October 30, 2011

Published: 2006
Format: paperback

I haven’t read True Believer but now that I know this is the sequel, it will make it that much better. Sparks, however, creates great standalone novels that don’t require the reading of any others prior to.

In this specific love story, Lexi & Jeremy are preparing for marriage while keeping the secret of their unborn child from family and friends, fearing they will jump to the conclusion that they are only marrying because of the baby, instead of love.

As the story progresses, there is much turmoil and second thoughts as everything Lexi & Jeremy believe in is questioned when they move back to her home town. Love keeps them together and creates a great romance that will last a lifetime.

REVIEW: Dear John

Title: Dear John
Author: Nicholas Sparks
Finished: June 12, 2011
Pages: 276
Published: 2006
Format: First Edition

Made into a movie, this love story holds lots of heartache, and if I remember has some differences from the movie version.

A unlikely couple – a young religious girl on summer vacation and a army man on leave – meet by coincidence on the beach one night, and slowly their friendship turns into a partnership and before long they are nearly inseparable during the days.

Their perfect summer fades quickly as they find themselves faced with returning to their lives, broken apart and far away.

This wasn’t my favorite Sparks book but it was very good to read and heartwarming from beginning to end.

The Notebook

Pages: 214

Nicholas Sparks’ first novel about two young lovers who are separated after one summer together to lead their own lives only to have fate bring them back together years later.

I found a lot of hype around this love story of a modern Romeo and Juliet, and around the movie. While I enjoyed the movie and the book, I don’t think it’s going to be my favorite Sparks novel by far. It’s only my second by him, and yet it’s my second favorite. I find many times that the first novel for some authors is not their best and their writing grows over the years, so this may be true for Sparks.

However, I did enjoy this story of Allie and Noah and look forward to more Nicholas Sparks novels in the future.

My first Nicholas Sparks. A great story about finding love after you thought there was no more chance of finding it. Inspired to read it quickly after seeing the preview for the movie. Not quite the tear jerker like I’ve heard Sparks to be, but still a wonderful love story that leaves you happy and satisfied.
