2011 Support Your Local Library Challenge

Hosted by: Book Junkie’s Bookshelf
January 1 – December 31, 2011

I love my local library, and even more now that they opened a branch closer to my house. I loved this challenge last year and I know I will have fun again this year.

The Rules:

  • Anyone can join.
  • You don’t need a blog to participate.
  • Non-Bloggers: Post your list of books in the comment section of the wrap-up post on Jamie’s blog.
  • Audio, Re-reads, eBooks, YA, Young Reader – basically any book counts just as long as it is checked out from the library. Books MUST be checked out like with a library card, books purchased at a library DO NOT count.
  • No need to list your books in advance. You may select books as you go. Even if you list them now, you can change the list if needed.
  • Crossovers from other reading challenges count.

There are four levels to this challenge…Pick your poison:

  1. The Mini – Check out and read 30 library books.
  2. “Fun” Size – Check out and read 40 library books.
  3. Jumbo Size – Check out and read 50 library books.
  4. Mega Size – Check out and read 51+ library books.

I’m going with the smaller challenge, just because I really want to get through more books on my shelves than from outside, but I don’t think 30 will be  too much to handle.

MY LIST:

  1. The Secret in the Old Attic by Carolyn Keene
  2. The Clue in the Crumbling Wall by Carolyn Keene
  3. The Mystery of the Tolling Bell by Carolyn Keene
  4. Casino Royale by Ian Fleming

  10. Clue in the Old Album by Carolyn Keene
  11. From a Buick 8 by Stephen King
  12. Life by Keith Richards

I participated in this challenge in 2010 and am still working to try to complete as much as I can before the end of the year. Sadly, I don’t think I’ll make it but I’m excited to join in again in 2011 and read more of the great recommendations.

Fall into Reading Wrap Up

Hosted by Callapidder Days
September 22 – December 20, 2010

I always have high high HIGH hopes for this challenge and getting a lot read and I never come through for myself. This is the third year in a row, I think, that I didn’t get all my books read.

I am happy that I got a lot, but my reading definitely slowed down in 2010 and I have many challenges that will go unfinished as I only have a handful of days left to read too many books.

Here’s my original list with the books unfinished crossed off. I am almost finished with The Last of the Mohicans and plan on reading Wuthering Heights before the end of the year. I have a stack of Nancy Drew’s to complete as well so I’m anticipating I should get through this list by Decmber 31.

Fiction

  1. I, Alex Cross by James Patterson
  2. Plum Lucky by Janet Evanovich
  3. Fearless Fourteen by Janet Evanovich
  4. Plum Spooky by Janet Evanovich
  5. Finger Lickin Fifteen by Janet Evanovich
  6. Smash Cut by Sandra Brown
  7. Flowers in the Attic by V.C. Andrews
  8. Four Past Midnight by Stephen King
  9. The Bone Collector by Jeffrey Deaver
  10. Secret Diary of a Call Girl by Anonymous

1,001 List

  1. Mansfield Park by Jane Austen
  2. In Cold Blood by Truman Capote
  3. Breakfast at Tiffany’s by Truman Capote
  4. The Godfather by Mario Puzo
  5. Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger
  6. Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
  7. Last of the Mohicans by James Fenimore

Nancy Drew (Carolyn Keene)

  1. The Mystery of the Ivory Charm
  2. The Whispering Statue
  3. The Haunted Bridge
  4. The Clue of the Tapping Heels
  5. The Mystery of the Brass Bound Trunk
  6. The Mystery of the Moss Covered Mansion
  7. The Quest of the Missing Map
  8. The Clue in the Jewel Box
  9. The Secret of the Old Attic
  10. The Clue in the Crumbling Wall
  11. The Mystery of the Tolling Bell
  12. The Clue in the Old Album
  13. The Ghost of Blackwood Hall
  14. The Clue of the Leaning Chimney

Other Books Not Originally Included:

  1. David Copperfield by Charles Dickens
  2. The Message in the Hollow Oak by Carolyn Keene
  3. Late, Late at Night by Rick Springfield
  4. Sorry Right Number by Stephen King
  5. Stationary Bike by Stephen King
  6. Exploiting Chaos by Jeremy Gutsche
  7. The Time of My Life by Patrick Swayze and Lisa Niemi
  8. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
  9. The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner by Stephenie Meyer
  10. The Walk by Richard Paul Evans

Here are some of the wrap up questions:

  1. Did you stick to your original goals or did you change your list as you went along? I stuck to my original goals and didn’t change the list, but I also did reading outside the list that I have included since it was the equivilent of what I should have read.
  2. What was your favorite book that you read this fall? Least favorite? Why? I really loved Breakfast at Tiffany’s and the Stephanie Plum books. They were enjoyable. Tiffany’s was most fun because I was in NY while I read it. My least was probably one of the Nancy Drew’s. They are quick reads but I think I’m ready for a break.
  3. Did you learn something new because of Fall Into Reading 2010 – something about reading, about yourself, or about a topic you read about? I learned that maybe I shouldn’t pick such a long list and when I do, actually stick to that list for reading and not venture out.
  4. What was your favorite thing about the challenge? I love getting to choose books in advance and force myself to read books to finish out the year with.

With 10 extra books read not on the list, I still consider this challenge complete! Looking forward to next year already!
